    Iron Platform Beds

An iron platform bed gives you the presence of a traditional iron bed with the low-profile, modern silhouette of a platform design. Our Surround platform beds feature iron frames that wrap around three sides of the mattress — the headboard and both sides — creating an enclosed sleeping space without the visual mass of a full four-poster.

Every platform bed we make belongs to our Iron Art collection, our design-forward modern line. The Iron Art collection emphasizes clean geometric lines and architectural presence, which pairs naturally with platform-style construction. Platform beds take a mattress only, with no box spring required. The mattress sits directly on a slatted foundation inside the iron surround, which keeps the overall bed height low to the floor.

These beds work particularly well in bedrooms with lower ceilings, in rooms where you want the bed to feel grounded rather than towering, and in modern, industrial, or minimalist interiors where the visual weight of a traditional iron bed would feel out of place. Our iron platform beds are available in up to 12 hand-applied Iron Art finishes, from classic Aged Iron to distinctive multi-layer designer finishes.

    Explore Our Iron Platform Beds

The Braden Surround is our most popular platform bed, pairing a classic metal headboard with the distinctive three-sided iron frame for a balanced aesthetic that blends traditional and modern elements. The gently rounded top rail and slender vertical bars create an open feel, while the low-profile frame grounds the design.

The Blake Surround takes a cleaner, more geometric approach with slender vertical bars, substantial corner posts, and refined finials. It's our most versatile platform design and works equally well in modern, industrial, and transitional bedrooms.

For buyers who want more architectural complexity, the Quati Surround features a gracefully curved headboard with a sweeping upper rail, while the Sheffield Surround pairs robust headboard posts with rhythmic vertical bars for a slightly more traditional silhouette that still reads as modern thanks to the platform base.

What Makes a Platform Bed Different

Traditional iron beds use a bed frame that holds a box spring, with the mattress resting on top of the box spring. The mattress sits approximately 16 to 20 inches off the floor. Platform beds eliminate the box spring entirely. The mattress rests directly on a slatted foundation inside the iron Surround frame, which brings the overall mattress height down to around 12 to 14 inches.

This lower profile changes how the bed feels in the room. Platform beds feel more grounded and modern, making them popular for contemporary interiors and smaller rooms where the bed's visual weight matters. They also eliminate the cost of a box spring.

Our Surround platform beds are compatible with any standard U.S. mattress. The slatted foundation inside the Surround frame is designed for memory foam, hybrid, innerspring, and latex mattresses, so you have complete flexibility when selecting a mattress.
