Not usually. Four posters have no overhead frame, so they suit more rooms than canopy beds. Check the bed height on the product page against your ceiling, especially for the taller Dream Gallery designs.

American Classics and Dream Gallery designs can be ordered with custom heights, up to 13 inches taller, for an added fee. Iron Art heights are fixed.

Iron Four Poster Beds

A four poster iron bed has tall posts at each corner that rise above the headboard and footboard. You get the height and presence of a canopy bed without the overhead frame, which makes four posters easier to fit in rooms with standard ceilings.

Our four poster designs run from simple and classic to our most ornate, across three collections. Each one is handcrafted to order in Los Angeles by our partner workshops, with hand-poured castings around every weld joint and a finish applied by hand.

Our four poster iron beds

Traditional (American Classics, 6 to 8 weeks): the Brighton, with a grid of slender bars and round finials; the Arcadia, with arched panels and knotted castings; the Kennebunk; plus the Gardenia, Glendale and Rayna.

Most ornate (Dream Gallery, 6 to 8 weeks): the Amiens Abbey, Chartres Four Poster, Morella, Morella II, Morella Low Foot, Isabelle and Olwyn's Amulet.

Cleaner lines (Iron Art, 10 to 14 weeks): the Blake, Laurel, Merrick and Quati.

Four poster or canopy?

A four poster has tall posts at each corner that stand on their own. A canopy bed adds rails that connect the tops of the posts into an overhead frame. Four posters work well where a full canopy would feel heavy or the ceiling is lower. If you want the frame overhead, see our iron canopy beds.
