Our Iron Bed Collections Compared: Finding Your Perfect Match
By American Iron Beds · Handcrafting Iron Beds in Los Angeles Since 1998

We offer four distinct iron bed collections, a dedicated daybed collection, and accessories. Every piece is handcrafted in Los Angeles, finished by hand, and backed by a lifetime structural warranty. But the collections differ in meaningful ways: design aesthetic, available finishes, rail height options, customization flexibility, and price range.
This guide walks through each collection side by side so you can find the one that matches your style, your room, and your budget. If you already know what you're looking for, jump straight to the collection that interests you. If you're not sure, the comparison table at the end will help you narrow it down.
North Haven Traditions
The collection for: Timeless, versatile iron bed designs that work across bedroom styles without committing to a single aesthetic.
North Haven Traditions features clean silhouettes with balanced proportions. These beds are designed to be adaptable — the kind of iron bed that looks equally at home in a traditional bedroom, a transitional space, or a modern farmhouse. The design language is restrained rather than ornate, with enough detail to feel handcrafted but not so much that it locks you into one decorating style.
Rail heights: 8 inches (designed for box spring and mattress) or 12 inches (platform height, mattress only, no box spring needed).
Available finishes: 12 hand-applied options. Six core finishes shown by default: Aged Iron (dark charcoal-gunmetal), Aged Bronze (deep dark bronze with blue-green patina hints), Matte White (soft, chalky warm white), Matte Black (flat, clean, modern), Brass Bisque (muted antique brass with green-gold complexity), and Aged Rust (rich dark brown with warm rust undertones). Six additional designer finishes available: Rustic Ivory, Espresso, Aged Steel, Old Copper, Vintage White, and Aged Gold.
Customization: Finish selection from 12 options. Standard rail heights (8" or 12"). All standard mattress sizes from Twin through California King.
Best for: Customers who want a versatile iron bed that adapts to future bedroom changes, guest bedrooms where the bed needs to work with different guest tastes, and anyone who prefers understated craftsmanship over ornate detail.
Iron Art
The collection for: Artistic, contemporary iron bed designs with distinctive character and creative detailing.
Iron Art pushes iron bed design further than North Haven Traditions. These beds have more personality — sculptural elements, unexpected curves, artistic interpretations of traditional ironwork. They're designed to be noticed, not to blend in. An Iron Art bed is a statement piece that says something about the person who chose it.
Rail heights: 8 inches (box spring and mattress) or 12 inches (platform, mattress only).
Available finishes: Same 12 hand-applied options as North Haven Traditions. Six core: Aged Iron, Aged Bronze, Matte White, Matte Black, Brass Bisque, Aged Rust. Six designer: Rustic Ivory, Espresso, Aged Steel, Old Copper, Vintage White, Aged Gold.
Customization: Finish selection from 12 options. Standard rail heights (8" or 12"). All standard mattress sizes.
Best for: Customers who want their iron bed to be the room's focal point, bedrooms with a defined design direction (industrial, artistic, eclectic), and anyone who values distinctive design over safe versatility.
What makes Iron Art different from North Haven Traditions: Both collections share the same construction quality, the same finish options, and the same rail height configurations. The difference is purely aesthetic. North Haven is designed to complement a room. Iron Art is designed to lead it.
American Classics
The collection for: Traditional iron bed designs with the widest range of customization options.
American Classics features classic iron bed silhouettes — the ornate scrollwork, detailed castings, and timeless proportions that most people picture when they think of an iron bed. But what sets American Classics apart is customization. This collection offers more flexibility to tailor the bed to your exact specifications than any other collection we carry.
Rail height: 9 inches standard, with the option to adjust the rail height up or down for a $165 upcharge. This means you can fine-tune the clearance under the bed for storage, for mattress thickness compatibility, or for the visual profile you prefer.
Headboard and footboard height adjustments: Available for a $165 upcharge per adjustment. The leg tubing is lengthened or shortened without altering the headboard or footboard design. Maximum recommended adjustment is 12-13 inches.
Available finishes: 13 hand-applied options. Six core finishes: Distressed White (white with dark base metal showing through), Farmhouse Beige (heavily weathered silvery-brown patina), Antique Bronze (copper-bronze base with green verdigris patina), Antique Black (black with subtle grey-silver highlights), White Matte (bright, smooth, porcelain-like white), and Farmhouse Red (deep muted barn red). Seven additional finishes including designer and premium options: Antique Blue, Antique Sage, Antique Gold, Distressed Turquoise, Farmhouse Gray, Black Gold (+$300), and Smokey Gold (+$300).
Best for: Customers who want a traditional iron bed look with the ability to customize height, rail clearance, and finish precisely to their room. Primary bedrooms where the bed is a long-term investment. Rooms with specific dimensional requirements.
Dream Gallery
The collection for: Premium, ornate iron bed designs including our canopy and four-poster beds.
Dream Gallery is our most dramatic collection. These are the beds with the most intricate castings, the most detailed scrollwork, and the most commanding presence. The Dream Gallery is also home to all six of our canopy and four-poster designs: the Morella Canopy, Chartres Canopy, Chartres Four Poster, Olwyn's Amulet Canopy, Amiens Abbey Canopy, and Isabelle Canopy.
Rail height: 9 inches standard, with the same customization options as American Classics ($165 upcharge for adjustments).
Headboard and footboard height adjustments: Same flexibility as American Classics ($165 upcharge, maximum 12-13 inches).
Available finishes: Same 13 hand-applied options as American Classics, including the two premium designer finishes (Black Gold and Smokey Gold at +$300). The core six: Distressed White, Farmhouse Beige, Antique Bronze, Antique Black, White Matte, Farmhouse Red.
What makes Dream Gallery different from American Classics: Both collections share the same finish options, the same rail height flexibility, and the same customization capabilities. The difference is design intensity. American Classics covers the range from moderate to ornate. Dream Gallery starts at ornate and goes to extraordinary. Dream Gallery is also the only collection with canopy and four-poster beds.
Important note: Dream Gallery beds and all custom orders are non-refundable. The level of craftsmanship and customization involved means each piece is built specifically for the customer who ordered it.
Best for: Customers who want the most dramatic, visually impressive iron bed available. Bedrooms with high ceilings that can accommodate canopy designs (9-foot minimum recommended for canopies). Anyone who wants a bed that will be the definitive statement piece in the room for decades. For a complete guide to our canopy options, see our iron canopy beds guide.
Daybeds
The collection for: Multipurpose rooms where the bed serves as both sleeping surface and seating.
Our daybed collection features iron daybed designs built with the same construction quality as our full-size beds: heavy-gauge steel tubing, hand-poured castings, one-piece welded construction, and hand-applied finishes.
Iron daybeds work in guest rooms that double as home offices, sunrooms, reading nooks, and studio apartments where the bed needs to look like furniture during the day. The iron frame's visual transparency is especially valuable here — a daybed with an open iron back and sides reads as a sofa or settee, not as a bed someone sleeps in.
Rail heights: 8 inches (box spring and mattress) or 12 inches (platform, mattress only).
Available finishes: 12 hand-applied options (same selection as North Haven Traditions and Iron Art).
Available sizes: Twin and Full. Daybeds are typically used with Twin mattresses, but Full-size daybeds are available for customers who want more sleeping surface.
Best for: Guest rooms, home offices with overnight capability, sunrooms, and any room where the bed needs to function as both seating and sleeping furniture.
Accessories
Our accessories collection includes iron benches and complementary pieces designed to pair with our bed collections. Accessories are built with the same construction methods and are available in matching finishes so you can coordinate pieces throughout a bedroom.

How to Choose Between Collections
If you're still deciding, here are the questions that usually point customers in the right direction.
"I want a bed that works with any bedroom style." North Haven Traditions. The versatile designs won't lock you into one aesthetic.
"I want the bed to be the focal point." Iron Art for contemporary rooms, Dream Gallery for traditional rooms. Both are designed to command attention.
"I need custom height or rail adjustments." American Classics or Dream Gallery. These are the only collections with height customization ($165 upcharge).
"I want a canopy bed." Dream Gallery. All six canopy and four-poster designs are exclusive to this collection.
"I'm furnishing a guest room or rental." North Haven Traditions for the best balance of quality and versatility, or a daybed if the room serves double duty.
"I want the most ornate, dramatic iron bed possible." Dream Gallery. Start there and work backward if needed.
"I'm on a tighter budget." North Haven Traditions tends to be the most accessible entry point in terms of pricing. Headboard-only configurations in any collection are the most affordable way in. See our headboard only vs complete bed comparison for trade-offs.
"I can't decide between two collections." Call us at (800) 378-1742. We walk customers through this decision every day, and we can help you narrow it down based on your room, your style, and your budget. We're not going to push you toward the most expensive option. We're going to help you find the right one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I mix pieces from different collections?
Each collection has its own design language and finish palette. Mixing a headboard from one collection with a frame from another isn't recommended because the finishes won't match exactly and the design proportions may not align. Within a collection, all pieces are designed to work together.
Which collection has the most finishes?
American Classics and Dream Gallery each offer 13 hand-applied finishes, including two premium designer options (Black Gold and Smokey Gold at +$300). North Haven Traditions and Iron Art each offer 12 finishes. All finishes are unique to their collection group — the finish names and colors differ between the two groups.
Are the construction methods the same across collections?
Yes. Every collection uses the same construction: heavy-gauge, thick-walled steel tubing, solid iron rod, hand-poured metal castings at structural joints, and one-piece welded headboards and footboards. The quality is identical. The differences between collections are design aesthetic, finish selection, and customization options.
Which collection includes daybeds?
We have a dedicated daybed collection that's separate from the four bed collections. Daybeds share construction quality and finish options with North Haven Traditions and Iron Art.
Do all collections offer the same configurations?
Yes. All four bed collections offer Headboard Only, Headboard + Frame, and Complete Bed configurations. The frame color differs: Matte Black for North Haven and Iron Art, Gunmetal Grey for American Classics and Dream Gallery. Painting the frame to match the headboard finish is available for an additional charge.
